Authentic Mentoring for Young People Who Feel Misunderstood

Our Story

Many of the young people we work with feel anxious, overwhelmed, and misunderstood.

They often process the world differently.
And too often, that difference is judged rather than understood.

Over time, this can lead to low self-esteem, school disengagement, social withdrawal, and strained family relationships.

But young people who experience the world differently should not be punished or suffer judgement simply because they process life in their own unique way.

They deserve to feel safe.
They deserve to feel accepted.
They deserve to belong.

Our Mission:

To enhance the quality of life for young people and their loved ones through authentic, trusting relationship-building.

A world where every young person experiences positive change and thrives through trust, understanding, and strong connections with mentors, families, and communities. We aspire to empower young people to reach their full potential and create lasting, meaningful impact in their lives.

Our Vision:

How We Help

Our Approach

At Lean On Me Mentors, we believe meaningful change begins with relationships.

Our approach is simple:

1. Connect
We meet the young person where they are — without judgement.

2. Build Trust
Through consistency, calmness, and reliability, we create psychological safety.

3. Unlock Strengths
We focus on strengths and interests, helping young people build confidence, self-belief, and resilience.

When a young person feels understood, everything begins to change

Through consistent mentoring and collaboration with families, schools, and professionals, we regularly see:

• Increased school attendance and engagement
• Improved relationships with peers and teachers
• Reduced conflict and disciplinary action
• Greater emotional regulation
• Increased confidence and self-belief

Parents have shared that their sons have gone from barely attending school to attending nearly full-time; re-engaged, motivated, and rebuilding friendships.

These changes are not accidental.
They are the result of trust-based mentoring and genuine connection.

The Outcomes We See

Why Lean On Me Mentors?

Founder Ross Siljeur discovered his life’s work through recognising a simple truth: when someone feels unseen or judged long enough, it impacts how they see themselves.

Having grown up in a society shaped by segregation, Ross understands what it means to feel different, misinterpreted, or less than. That lived experience fuels a deep commitment to ensuring young people never internalise the belief that something is “wrong” with them.

Since beginning this work, Ross has mentored more than 20 young boys and has been requested by multiple families to continue mentoring beyond Ministry-funded contracts.

Lean On Me Mentors is currently at capacity — a reflection of the demand for consistent, relationship-based support.
